Small children face a higher risk of serious injuries when their clothing comes in contact with fire than older children or adults. Pajamas are usually made of polyester, 100% cotton, or what is called flame resistant cotton.
Flame resistant cotton barely burns at all and polyester is quickly extinguished when the flame is removed. But 100% cotton burns very rapidly and that is why oversized cotton tee shirts are a serious burn threat. Cotton pajamas must fit snugly around the legs, arms and chest to be safe from fire.
So be sure to check the labels on your child's sleepwear to make sure they are protected. Repeated use of some laundry products cause the fabrics to burn more quickly, so read your cleaning labels.
May your children always sleep safely and soundly.
