My daughter is only two and I don't see the problem with her taking her blanket with her everywhere we go. I think eventually the need to have "blankee" with us will lessen.
My mother-in-law on the other hand thinks we should "lose" it somehow.
What do other parents think?
If having a special blanket is not keeping her from playing and enjoying life then what is the big deal.
Eventually she will grow out of it and need it less and less. I see no harm in it, but I do think "losing" it could be very traumatic.
My daughter has always had her favorite blanket. Granted it has caused some stressful times when we couldn't locate it, but it really isn't that big of deal.
She plays with it, and sometimes it becomes an imaginary friend. She still takes it to bed at night with her, she is 6, but sometimes she forgets and no biggee.
Gradually we didn't have to take her everywhere with us, and it has never stopped her from playing or doing what she wanted. Most of the time when we go somewhere unless it is overnight or she thinks of it her security blanket stays home.
I suspect the blanket won't be around for much longer because it is falling apart.
An added benefit is it taught her some responsibility, when she was quite a bit younger she lost it in a store and was pretty upset. We found it and after that she was more careful not to misplace it.
Unless the blanket is causing problems I don't see what the big deal is. Lots of kids and preteens even still have a favorite blanket that they like to sleep with. It is almost like taking a favorite doll or toy truck along when you go somewhere.
