How Important Is Preschool?

My son will start kindergarten in about a year, not sure if we should send him to preschool beforehand or not. He know his alphabet and numbers so I don't think he will have any academic problems once he starts school.

There is more to preschool than academics. Your child will learn how to make friends, get an introduction into a structured environemnt, and be way more prepared for kindergarten.

I agree with Vi, plus if your child will be going to an all day kindergarten then it is important for them to get a taste of "school life" with preschool.

I talked to an Aunt of mine who is a teacher and she said that kids that go to preschool adjust much quicker than those that don't. Not so much because of the academics but because of the socialization and structured environment.

Preschool lays the foundation for education. Children become familiar with the learning environment and learn basic skills beforehand. This provides them with the confidence and belief in there own abilities that they need to start school successfully. It is a true transition that is important and neccessary.
