Did you know you can make your own moisturizing lotions in the kitchen?
Here are 2 quick lotion recipes you could use.
The first is a rose and avocado lotion
All you need is a little rose water and some avocado oil.
Moisturizers stay on you skin to hydrate your skin and prevent your skin from dehydrating. Many simple moisturizers are usually emulsions of water and oil. I prefer the ones which are water based, meaning where oil droplets are suspended in water.
Since water and oil do not dissolve one another, you need an emulsifier to get water and oil to form a suspension. I like to use lecithin in my lotions. You can add liquid lecithin to the oil part of the lotion or dissolve lecithin granules in the oil, by heating both the oil and the water portions of the lotion in separate containers simultaneously within a saucepan of water. For such lotions, you have to slowly add drops of warm oil to the warm water once the granules are dissolved. Now that is really troublesome.
Avocado oil already contains lecithin. You can simply make a lotion by shaking rose water and avocado oil together in a clean bottle. Just add equal amounts of rose water and avocado oil into the bottle and shake the bottle well before use.
The second lotion you could make is a simple rose and glycerin lotion.
You need rosewater and glycerin for this simple lotion.
If you have pure glycerin, just add 1 teaspoon of glycerin to 9 teaspoons of rosewater in a clean bottle, shake well, and you have a traditional moisturizing lotion that uses glycerin to draw moisture from the air to moisturize your skin.
For home made lotions, refrigerate them and use within 1 day.
