When you have flowers you want to dry there are a few different ways you can go about it.  Here are three different easy ways to go about preserving your flowers.  One tip is if the flowers you are wanting to dry are being cut from your own garden you will want to wait to cut them after there is no dew and since they will continue to bloom after they are cut try to preserve flowers that are not yet in full bloom.

Hanging Upside Down To Air Dry

After you have cut your flowers trip off the excess leaves and foliage, you may want to leave some close to the blossoms though.

Using rubber bands, string, or yarn bind the bottom of the stems together.

Your flowers then need to hang upside down in a dark place for 3 weeks or so.  You can attach them to a hanger and then hang them in a closet or even attach them right on the rod of a closet.

After they have dried spray them with hairspray.

Box Method

Take a box and cover the bottom with fine sand.

Again cut your flowers before they are too mature and strip off excess leaves.

Turn your flower blossoms upside down and place on the sand.

Gently cover the whole flower blossom with more sand.

Put them in a dry area for a couple of weeks and then gently unbury them.

Use a small paintbrush to gently get all the sand of the flowers.

Spray with hairspray.

Pressed Method

Cut your flowers before they are too mature and strip off extra leaves.

For each flower you want to press cut two pieces of cardboard approx 9 x11 (unless you have very large flowers that are larger than that).

Start with a piece of cardboard, add a piece of newspaper (9 x 11 as well), and then a piece of tissue paper the same size.  Place your flower on top of the newspaper, add another piece of tissue paper, another piece of newspaper, and finally another piece of cardboard.

Continue this process with all your flowers.

Place the stack of flowers surrounded by the tissue paper, newspaper, and cardboard together and place between two phone books.

Place something heavy on top to press the flowers.  Such as a dictionary or encyclopedia.  After about 3 weeks your pressed flowers will be dry.

Spray with hairspray.
