Fried ApplesFried apples, or often refered as hot apples, happens to be one of my favorite desserts to make. My wife loves them and my kids go crazy over them. I especially like to make fried apples simply because they are quick to make, the kids can help, and the cleanup is a snap.

There are many different things you can do with fried apples and I have included a few ideas below. However, this recipe it is designed to be a simple dessert treat.

Ingredients:

1-2 Medium to large apples. Hint: 1 apple is usually enough for 2 people.

1 Tablespoon of butter or margarine

Cinnamon

1 Tablespoon of sugar

Graham crackers

Whipped cream

How To Make:

Begin by slicing up your apples. 1/4 inch slices is preferred as they will fry a bit faster. You can also quarter each slice or cut them in half. It makes no difference.

Next start heating your butter or margarine in a frying pan allowing it to coat the pan.

Place the cut apples into a container and sprinkle with sugar and cinnimon. I prefer to make a cinnamon/sugar mixture (to taste) in a container with a lid. I add the apples, close the lid, and shake.

By this time the frying pan should be good and hot and the butter should be melted.

Carefully place your apple slices into the hot frying pan.

As you fry your apples be sure to shift and flip them occassionally. When they are soft all the way through they are done. If you wish you can leave them a bit longer to brown them. When you brown them they will caramelize which is equally as good. Caramelizing your apples are best for desert. Hot soft apples are best for side dishes and breakfast.

Remove from heat when they are done.

Note: If you caramelized the apples be sure to clean the frying pan immediately as it can get quite sticky.

How To Serve:

In each desert dish make a bed of crushed graham crackers. Add your freshly hot fried apples on top. Next sprinkle a bit of crushed graham crackers on top of the apples. Add whipped cream and one more sprinkle of graham crackers on the whipped cream.

Other Serving Ideas:

Soft fried apples are great side dish to pork chops.

Fried apple topped pancakes with apple syrup is a great morning treat.

Ice cream with fried apples topped with granola, graham, even oats (for added crunch and/or texture) is another desert you can make.
