My Sister-in-law's Homemade Runza Recipe

Provided by: Robin Reckard

I love it when my sister-in-law makes homemade runzas.  They taste so awesome, she does need to make them more often though (hint, hint).  She is also one of those cooks that just cooks.  Me, I need a recipe to follow, so she wrote it out for me so I could make runzas on my own too.

She makes her own dough some of the times when she makes it too.  But I use frozen bread dough when I make runzas.  Much quicker and easier.

How To Make:

Ingredients:

  • Frozen Bread Dough
  • 1/2 pound of ground beef
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 cups chopped cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (to wilt the cabbage)
  • Salt and pepper to taste, about 1/2 teaspoon of each

Directions:

Brown the hamburger and onions in a big enough pan that you can add the cabbage to it later.

Wilt your cabbage in the butter.

Add the cabbage to the beef as well as the salt and pepper. Stir.

Roll your dough very thin and cut into 6-7 inch squares.

Place about 3 tablespoons of your meat mixture onto the center of each square. Bring the corners of the dough to the center and pinch the edges together.

Place each runza with the smooth side up on a greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.
