Bitter Broccoli?

Last year was the first year I had ever tried to grow broccoli but it didn't have a good flavor it tasted bitter to me, any help out there?

You may be planting a broccoli variety that is meant for a cooler climate. Sometimes broccoli gets bitter if it gets too warm outside. If your climate is hot try the Packman variety, it tends to tolerate the heat better.
