I heard an offhand comment that you can't grow Iceberg lettuce in hot climates because of bolting. What does it mean and what is another variety you can grow in warmer climates that is similar to iceberg?
Bolting refers to the term where the lettuce or any other leaf plant sends out it's flowers and seeds this can happen prematurely in extremly hot weather. It causes the leaf plant to become bitter and taste like weeds. It also shortens the vegetables production. Hope this helps
What will bolting lettuce look like? What will the flowers look like?
When your lettuce is bolting the stems get longer and the branches too sometimes. The flowers kind of look like little dandelions.
