Hand Taming Nuthatches

A friend of mine, who lives many states away, says he can get nuthatches to eat out of his hand. He recommends nuts, especially the black walnut. Is he pulling my leg or can you really train them to do this?

He is not pulling your leg, if you are patient you can often get a nuthatch to eat out of your hand. It is such a fun thing when this happens. My grandkids think I am awesome. None of them have the patience to stand still to do it themselves so they think Grandpa holds a magic spell over nuthatches.
