Growing Cherry Trees in Central Texas

I want to plant two cherry trees in my yard, but the nurseries here say they won't grow here. If planted properly and maintained, why not. Killeen, Texas

To answer your question...it depends on the kind of cherry tree you are trying to grow.

Bing cherry trees can grow in the hardiness zones 5-8.

Check the plant hardiness zone map. It looks to me that zone 7-8 would be where you are located.

I live in Nebraska and had cherry trees grow just fine and survived harsh winters and didn't have problems with pests. We are on the border of 4-5 zone though.

I don't know the reason the nurseries in your area don't think they would do well. Did they state why? As far as zone you should be alright.
