I have just purchased a purple martin house, one of those aluminum apartment types, how high should I have the birdhouse up in the air?
I put mine up as high as the pole allowed it to go and still be stable. I love the purple martins but I had to take the house down a few times and clean out the nests of other birds. Kind of a pain but worth it now that I have purple martins in there.

I have had a purple martin house up for over 3 years now and I religiously clean out any nests from the sparrows. What more can I do, and how long does it take usually for them to find you?

I was told to use mealworms to attract purple martins, but how exactly do I do this? I haven't seen a martin in my backyard yet.
