Attracting Finches
I have my feeder out, but nothing.
We have a tube feeder with thistle seed hanging on our porch, but, no finches yet. We also have a bird bath and hanging suet feeder. We have another feeder that is more for all birds that contains a mix along with black oil sunflower seeds. Have not seen a finch yet. Help !!
I would think you would have finches. I am wondering if your feeder needs to be further from your porch. Maybe something on your porch is scaring off the birds. I think once you get them attracted to your yard you could try slowly moving it closer to where you would like the finch to feed.

Someone maybe pulling my leg here but I was told to put a salt block out and the finches would come. Does this make any kind of sense to anyone? If it does will it attract other birds too?

I so enjoy watching the finches and would love even more to come to my backyard. If I plant some sunflowers will that make the finches happy and get more to show up?

I let some lettuce go to seed last year and it was a backyard bird bonanza. The birds flocked to it, we especially saw a lot of finches.

Don't get me wrong my wife and I love all the finches in our yard but in particular we like the gold finches. What I did was turn one of my finch feeders upside down so the perch was above the hole and now the only finches that seem to feed on it is the goldfinches. Not sure why it works but it does.

Does anyone know of anything different that finches like to eat that I could put out for them? I currently put out niger seed, millet, and lots of sunflower seeds.
