Mantel decor can be something as simple as a picture and a candle. There is no right or wrong when decorating your fireplace mantel.

Half of the appeal of a room is it being clean and picked up. Think back and don't you feel more relaxed and enjoy your rooms more when they are uncluttered? The same goes for your fireplace mantel.

You don't want it to appear cluttered with too many things. You also want to make sure it is not the convenient spot for people to put keys, mail, and other objects. This happens quite frequently to fireplace mantels and the tops of entertainment centers.

Pick out a few items to place on your fireplace mantel. They do not have to be related items. A photograph, a picture, a candle, a few knickknacks, or a teacup, any items will do. Make sure they are varied in height to give your mantel more eye appeal.

A lot of people put sets of two up to give uniformity. We say BORING, be unique and try out some different groupings and make it an interesting and pleasing focal point. Change the fireplace mantel items periodically either with the holidays, the seasons, or when you feel you need a change.

As much as we hate to say it, and do it, dusting is key here. Your fireplace mantel items will look much better if they don't have a layer of dust on them!
