Do bears really sleep all winter?
Nope, when bears hibernate they do not sleep though the whole winter. They get up many times to eat and to go to the bathroom.
Besides, as a mother, if I shared a room with my kids, I can't even imagine I'd sleep soundly through one night - let alone an entire season!
What was the most popular pedigreed dog in the U.S. last year?
According to the American Kennel Assoc., the most popular breed was the Labrador Retriever. Next in line (listed in order)were the Rottweiler, Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Poodle, Beagle, Dachshund, Cocker Spaniel, Yorkie, and Pomeranian.
Why do dogs always sniff around outside and get so excited over the scents?
For your dog, smelling scents left by other dogs outside, is like getting mail; letting him know who has been there since he last visited the area, etc. And the 'news' from male dogs can be even more detailed, telling your dog whether the previous visitor is larger or smaller than he is. This is why you sometimes see smaller male dogs practically contorting themselves to urinate as high as possible - to give the illusion that they are the bigger (dominant) dog. (And I'll bet you thought your little guy didn't have an ego).
