The Cosmos we saw some really neat optical illusions - it was right outside of Rapid City South Dakota

Maria83 (Guest) Said,

We were leaving Rapid City South Dakota and heading up into the Black Hills to see Mount Rushmore and we saw a place called the Cosmos. We decided to stop and it was so much fun.

Our kids were baffled and amazed to see balls roll uphill, and they couldn't figure out why our daughter all of a sudden appeared to be taller than our son.

We got some awesome pictures and the whole family enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

We very much enjoyed our Black Hills vacation.

Frank (Guest) Said,

I went 10 years ago , and i was just telling some friends about it , and they dident believe that it even existed . so here i am on the internet . looking up the cosmos ...

I have 6 carrots, 7 trees, and 7 birds. How many trees do I have?

We had the opportunity to travel to South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It is unreal to see the faces of the presidents carved in stone like that. I am amazed that someone saw this vision and then saw fit to carry out the sculpting.

We walked the Presidential Trail and got as close as we could to the faces. It was just a marvel to me to see our great leaders sculpted in stone for everyone to see.

We got lucky and were also there for the lighting ceremony. They do that at 9 oclock every evening. The ranger spoke on it and it was so very interesting. I was amazed seeing their faces lit up at night.

We want to go back someday on the 4th of July, I guess they put on a big fireworks display. I can't think of a more patriotic place to do that.

Everyone vacationing in South Dakota should stop, it is not enough catching a glimpse from the highway - you need to go up close and really see and enjoy it.

We were really impressed with all the great campgrounds we found in the Black Hills. Clean, safe, and very pretty.

A note to anyone camping or vacationing in the Black Hills is you will want reservations if you are going to travel there anytime close to the Sturgis Rally.

One of the kids's favorite campsite was the Flinstones Bedrock City. It was near Custer South Dakota. They really enjoyed the playground and all it had to offer. My wife and I enjoyed it too, since Fred Flinstone is more a cartoon from our era than theirs.

We went to a show nearby, I think it was called a mellerdrama. It was fun the kids booed the villian and cheered the hero. It was a great ending to a great day spent unwinding at a campground.

We went on a snowmobiling trip to Lead South Dakota and it was awesome.

Great trails and scenery, I wish I would have packed my camera the first time we went out. I took it with me after that and got some great pictures.

The snow was awesome, some went skiing too and really enjoyed it. Not me I just stayed on my snowmobile and enjoyed all the trails.

They say it is popular in the summer for hiking and mountain biking too. I may have to head up there some summer with my mountain bike and check it out.

We were driving throuth the Black Hills and heard about an Alpine Slide near Keystone South Dakota and we decided to check it out.

We took a chairlift to the top and had some really good hamburgers for lunch and then to go back down we took the Alpine Slide. We didn't know if my daughter would go (you can take the chairlift down) but after she saw other kids going down she tried it and really enjoyed it.

It was a nice stop to make for us.

We were on our way to Mount Rushmore and decided to stop by and see the Crazy Horse Monument.

While it is far from complete you can see Crazy Horse's head clearly. We all found it very interesting the history of the monument and one families quest for it to be completed.

I learned a lot about the Native American history of the badlands that I was not even aware of too.

I hope to go back and see it completed one day.
