Custer State Park South Dakota

Jim (Guest) Said,

We recently wend on a vacation to the Black Hills and saw and did a ton of things. It is an area we will go back to again sometime.

The next time we go we will schedule more time to spend wandering around Custer State Park. There were a lot of places to stop and swim or hike and we didn't get to do this nearly enough.

We saw both buffalo and burros when we were driving. The burro's (or maybe they are donkeys) were right on the road and just wandering around. We had fun looking for and finding the needle rock formation to.

The kids loved the prarie dog town and seeing them pop up from their holes and then going right back down.

Next time we will definitely spend more time here walking around the lakes and taking it all in.

We were driving throuth the Black Hills and heard about an Alpine Slide near Keystone South Dakota and we decided to check it out.

We took a chairlift to the top and had some really good hamburgers for lunch and then to go back down we took the Alpine Slide. We didn't know if my daughter would go (you can take the chairlift down) but after she saw other kids going down she tried it and really enjoyed it.

It was a nice stop to make for us.

While we were in Hot Springs we went to Evan's Plunge, we had such a good time we spent another day in the area checking out some other things.

My favorites were Wind Cave. It was really fun going down in the cave and there was prarie dogs outside that were so fun to watch too.

We also took a jeep ride and saw the wild mustangs. We did this at a place called the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. I didn't know there was wild horses anymore but there really are.

One more thing we did was go to the Mammoth Site, we saw lots of bones from wooly mammoths found in the area. It was really neat seeing things I have learned about in school. They said there was a sinkhole there and that is why there are so many bones in the area.

I would like to go back there again someday to learn more about the Ice Age. (I want to go swim again at Evan's Plunge too).

I remember traveling to the Black Hills with my family when I was a kid. We stopped in Rapid City South Dakota and went to a place called Reptile Gardens.

We saw some great animal shows, and lots of tortoises, snakes, and reptiles of all kinds.

It was a fun day and I have always remembered that as one of my favorite stops on our trip.

I just got back from taking my kids through Custer State Park, up to see Mount Rushmore, and of course we had to stop at Reptile Gardens.

I enjoyed it just as much as before, probably more so because I got to see my kids enjoy something that I had when I was their age. The staff was very friendly and related well to kids, and we loved all the shows. The bird show was spectacular, my daughter was so amazed.

It was a fun day for the whole family, I hope my kids will take their kids someday too.

I am not sure what I really expected when I headed to Sturgis for the Motorcycle Rally. What I did see was more motorcycles than I ever thought I would see and some of the most unique bikes I could imagine.

I found people to be very friendly and it wasn't the wild party that I thought it might be. I met people from all over the United States and some from other countries too. It was great just visiting with people and enjoying everything.

They all had a love of motorcycles in common. There were people from all walks of life there and it was just amazing seeing everyone together in one place.

I would recommend the Sturgis Rally to all who enjoy traveling by motorcycle. South Dakota, in particular the Black Hills areas, really cater to the riders and make them feel welcome. The Black Hills are gorgeous too.

We were driving through South Dakota and the kids needed a break so we decided to stop at Wall Drug Store. It was touted as the largest drug store in the world.

My wife and I and all the kids had a great time. There were lots of fun things for the kids, they especially enjoyed the rides. My wife and I got a ton of great fun pictures from the cutouts they had available too.

I have to mention that I had the best hot beef sandwich there. So if you are in the area and stop by you should try one.
