I remember traveling to the Black Hills with my family when I was a kid. We stopped in Rapid City South Dakota and went to a place called Reptile Gardens.
We saw some great animal shows, and lots of tortoises, snakes, and reptiles of all kinds.
It was a fun day and I have always remembered that as one of my favorite stops on our trip.
I just got back from taking my kids through Custer State Park, up to see Mount Rushmore, and of course we had to stop at Reptile Gardens.
I enjoyed it just as much as before, probably more so because I got to see my kids enjoy something that I had when I was their age. The staff was very friendly and related well to kids, and we loved all the shows. The bird show was spectacular, my daughter was so amazed.
It was a fun day for the whole family, I hope my kids will take their kids someday too.

While we were in Hot Springs we went to Evan's Plunge, we had such a good time we spent another day in the area checking out some other things.
My favorites were Wind Cave. It was really fun going down in the cave and there was prarie dogs outside that were so fun to watch too.
We also took a jeep ride and saw the wild mustangs. We did this at a place called the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. I didn't know there was wild horses anymore but there really are.
One more thing we did was go to the Mammoth Site, we saw lots of bones from wooly mammoths found in the area. It was really neat seeing things I have learned about in school. They said there was a sinkhole there and that is why there are so many bones in the area.
I would like to go back there again someday to learn more about the Ice Age. (I want to go swim again at Evan's Plunge too).

We were in Rapid City last year and they were building an indoor water park with slides, waves, and a lazy river. I really want to go and my parents say maybe this winter.
I would love to hear from anyone who has gotten to go already what the water park is like.

We were really impressed with all the great campgrounds we found in the Black Hills. Clean, safe, and very pretty.
A note to anyone camping or vacationing in the Black Hills is you will want reservations if you are going to travel there anytime close to the Sturgis Rally.
One of the kids's favorite campsite was the Flinstones Bedrock City. It was near Custer South Dakota. They really enjoyed the playground and all it had to offer. My wife and I enjoyed it too, since Fred Flinstone is more a cartoon from our era than theirs.
We went to a show nearby, I think it was called a mellerdrama. It was fun the kids booed the villian and cheered the hero. It was a great ending to a great day spent unwinding at a campground.

We were in South Dakota on vacation a few years back and ran out of time before we could visit Bear Country USA. Has anyone taken the drive and is it worth the time?

I am not sure what I really expected when I headed to Sturgis for the Motorcycle Rally. What I did see was more motorcycles than I ever thought I would see and some of the most unique bikes I could imagine.
I found people to be very friendly and it wasn't the wild party that I thought it might be. I met people from all over the United States and some from other countries too. It was great just visiting with people and enjoying everything.
They all had a love of motorcycles in common. There were people from all walks of life there and it was just amazing seeing everyone together in one place.
I would recommend the Sturgis Rally to all who enjoy traveling by motorcycle. South Dakota, in particular the Black Hills areas, really cater to the riders and make them feel welcome. The Black Hills are gorgeous too.
