When vacationing on the island of Kauai you may even want to consider staying at one of the super nice resorts and hotels in the area. But onto what you can and should see while visiting the Lihua area.
First off of course is Kalapaki Beach with lots of white sandy beaches and an excellent area for sunning and swimming. Nearby you will want to spend time at the Kauai Lagoons, they are freshwater lagoons filled with all kinds of exotic wildlife. These are two have to sees while in the area.
While I have not been there you can visit Grove Farm Homestead Museum, you can see what sugar plantations were like in the "old days".
A trip down the Huleia River is well worth the time, you will see jungle like areas and a lot of wildlife. Very beautiful.
If you are into museums at all there is a really nice one called the Kaua'i Museum, you will find many interesting things there to look at and learn about.
You have to stop by Nawiliwili Harbor and view all the cruise ships that you will find there. It is a beautiful harbor surrounded by some nice resorts. Niumalu Harbor, a small boat harbor is close by as well.
I like to swim at Ninini Beach, I can see the mountains, enjoy the surf, and watch the big ships going into the harbor all at the same time.
One more interesting place I would like to mention is Menehune (Alekoko) Fishpond. Find out about the "little people", the Menehune, while you are there.
