Do I have to wear a tux?

Okay, not sure if any future brides here will take my side but I really don't want to wear a tux to my wedding. I want to wear jeans, boots, and a nice jacket. Would it really ruin the look of the wedding for me to do this? My mom seems to think so but my fiance is okay with this.
